Anne received a diary for her thirteenth birthday on June 12, 1942. It was something that she really wanted. Her parents let her choose it herself in a bookstore. This became the red checkered print diary, which we are now all familiar with.

The last time she wrote in this diary was on December 5, 1942. She then was in hiding in the Secret Annex for five months. As soon as Anne had considered her diary full, she continued to write in notebooks. She received these notebooks from her sister Margot and from the helpers.

The notebooks as you see them here, are similar to the ones that Anne used to continue writing down her thoughts, feelings and stories in once her red checkered print diary was full.
